A ribbon cutting for Fox River Paddle Sports will be held this evening at 5:30 in Village Hall Park near the canoe/kayak launches as noted in a Racine Journal Times article today. Guest speakers include Julie Anderson, Racine County Director of Public Works & Development Services; Joe Liebau, Jr., Southeast Director, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, and Dave Blank, President/CEO Real Racine Convention & Visitor Bureau. Girl Scout Troop 5149 will be on hand to "incubate" their lemonade business. The troop will donate their proceeds to Burlington Tragedy for the three Burlington students killed last weekend. The ceremony takes place just prior to River Rhythms season opening featuring Cold Sweat & the Brew City Horns beginning at 6:30.
The idea of incubating a business that provided rentals of canoes, kayaks, and SUPs (stand-up paddleboards) grew out of brainstorm sessions with Absolutely Waterford and the Waterford Area Chamber of Commerce to identify desirable businesses to recruit. With growing interest in paddling activities, development of the Fox River Water Trail, and a vision to make Waterford a recreation destination, a paddle sport rental business was a clear winner. The Village took on the task to incubate a business on Village Hall property and Sherri Mertz of SherriKayaks of Wind Lake was interested in growing her business to include rentals in Waterford.
Please join the Village, AW, and the Chamber as we welcome Fox River Paddle Sports to the community.
