When Johns Disposal offered a plan for weekly recycling pick-up, the Public Works and Utilities Committee looked to the citizens for guidance. The proposal was to move to weekly pick up at a cost of $1. per month per household. The schedule and accompanying fee would apply to all single family and multi-housing with less than four units. The Village began seeking input from citizens with an online survey. After more than a month, the survey garnered less than 200 responses with more in favor than not. The committee was not satisfied with the level of response and uncomfortable making a decision based on a 10% of households. A second survey with the same questions was distributed with water and sewer utility billing and the response was nearly 3 times higher with two thirds opposed. The committee recommended that the Board follow survey results and stay with the current schedule of recycling pick-up. The Board agreed and rejected the proposal.
